Ulcers. It’s a diagnosis that horse owners dread. But what exactly are ulcers, and why do they form? Here’s what you need to know about ulcers in your horse.
What Ulcers Are
Ulcers, more specifically gastric ulcers, are a common occurrence in performance horse. Ulcers are lesions which can form in the lining of a horse’s…

Well it was time for the equine dentist to come out again.
It is always amazing to watch a dentist do his work on our horses. Most of them had no real problems and just needed maintenance work. My young gelding surprised us with a baby tooth that did not fall out and needed to be extracted. He his much happier now and his swelling is going down.
I highly recommend to use an equine dentist rather then just have your vet do it.

So, we had the vet out to take a look at my little guy and make sure he was good to wean. And, since the farrier wanted some x-rays on his mom, we got them taken, no biggie...
Definite biggie. Her coffin bone has rotated more. She's barely lame. I think we're going to have to put her down, and it's just an appalling idea. She's 6 1/2. You think you get them through the worst of it and it will be okay. And now, we're back where we were 2 years ago. And then you think what if we…

Recovery...thats the word of the day. My hand that I cut open 10 days ago is healing very well. It still hurts to hold a hair brush, use a squirt bottle or use a body brush using downward strokes. Up until 10 minutes ago I couldnt take the cap off of my water bottle.
Part of my healing has been just getting back out to the barn to interact with my horses. Im a little nervous around them, since I am so protective of my hand right now, but thats fading away each time I go down…

Suddenly you horse is feeling a little off. What now?
He is just not quite kicking up his heels like he used to?
So, what do we do? Perhaps change his feed.
I know you. I bet you have already started asking all the our horsie friends what to do. You would certainly ask the farrier. Your trainer perhaps? The feed store lady?
Have you decided yet to add a supplement to his feed. Which one? Did that help?
Still not acting up to his highest potential? Are you…

After another weekend of Havoc... And I mean literally.
So, the dam of my little Havoc, her name is Snip, had her shoes pulled on Thursday. Now she had a bad case of laminitis two years ago and has 23.5 degrees of rotation in her right fore. So, the front of her foot doesn't exactly grow all that well. Which is why we'd pull her shoes and see if she could go barefoot and quit cracking up what little foot she has. Apparently not. P3 is pretty close to the sole, she must have…

Well, our mare delivered unto us a very adorable little boy on July 6. True to the adage that mares are cagey, at 9:30 pm the milk didn't test like she was imminent, she didn't look quite right, 11pm I get the call that the colt is on the ground. After a very tiring 2 hour drive down, I was pretty awake when I saw the little guy.
Momma was a maiden, delivery was easy, but she wasn't sure what she was supposed…
