Hi, all. Just joined Barnmice and this group. I just love the amazing temperaments of the draft crosses and their versatility. As an over-40 (just! :-) re-rider, the sanity of the crosses really appeals. I am working with my 4 yr old Clyde x TB mare and hoping to taker her to a low-level event or two next year. She is a sweetheart, and SO much fun. I'm looking forward to reading others' experiences.

Hi Ann, Thanx for your input in saddles. I looked at the types that you mentioned, and they didn't really do it for me..... There is a Tucker saddle available for a 10 day trial, so I think I'll try that. They have models in wide and xtra wide trees. I'll let ya all know how my trial goes. What saddles are you selling off? Has anyone found an aussie that fits a draft cross?

Two of our Draft Cross/Canadian Sport Horses will be showing at the Royal this year - in the Canadian Sport Horse Line Classes - we have a weanling filly and a 2 yr old colt showing. Classes 604, 610 and 620 on November 14 in the horse palace ring - showing after the TB classes in the morning.

Come Cheer us on - Prospect's Danika and Prospect's Bravestrom.

Amy, You might want to look at the treeless saddles such as Barefoot and Sensation make. Snsation is not high in the gullet so a high withered horse won't fit-too much pressure on withers. Barefoot is made with a gullet. I have a Fjord and an Icelandic and draft crosses and like my Sensation very well as it fits all of them and me and is the most comfortable saddle I have ever owned. Treeless saddles come in many models: trail, modified dressage, Western- and anything you want them to customize. I am slowly selling off my other saddles as I think treeless is the way to go for me.

I guess I'm one of your newest members, but been a draft cross fan for over 30 years since I got one as a teenager. That horse was an arab/percheron cross and he changed the way I looked at horses. The cross is rare but works exceptionally well since there is already arab in the percheron's ancestry. Took me years to find another one. He's the one in my photo. He happens to be registered Desert Norman. It's a very new developing breed registry, and now I'm running that registry, basically trying to get more people to try this cross. Please have a look at www.desertnorman.ca and help spread the word. And don't miss the photo gallery.

Question about saddles. I'm looking at the Tucker plantation for my Clydesdale fjord cross mare. Any opinions out there? Or suggestions for other saddles to look at? I want a trail style saddle with no horn. I tried an aussie that belongs to a friend, but even with the wide tree it left white marks on my girl.

Maureen welcome I bought my first draft cross 6 months ago, I can not say enough about the breed, I just love him, at first the girls at the barn made fun of me then they asked to try him after riding him they changed their opinion of draft cross horse. He will jump anything and really takes care of me
