Bobby is a Pony
After not being to get down off of Merlin without help I woke up last Sunday REALLY reluctant to ride him. I couldn’t get Shannon on the phone to tell her I had to switch to someone shorter for the summer, so I took two bridles and three girths out to the farm. Luckily I got there before Shannon had caught Merlin and she cheerfully agreed to let me ride Bobby, her British Riding Pony, who had been donated to her program because he had had ulcers. Turning…Continue

One of our regular readers sent us a photo of her project POA in the hopes that we would use it for a conformation clinic. We happily agreed and immediately started searching for comparable ponies to use in our post.
Holy hell, was it ever depressing!
This is Natchez. He’s…Continue

Isn't it crazy the lessons you can learn from horses? Just the other day I learned a really important one!
I have always wanted to show my horse. I thought this summer would be great to start. Everything seemed to work out quite lovely. I found a trailer to rent just down the road, I practiced with Comet every day and I picked out all the shows months in advance.
I spent a whole day with my friend (who would be my barn show hand) preparing for the show.…Continue
Everyone has a journey. You grow up, your parents do absolutely everything they can do to relish your talents and help you find something you love with all of your heart. Everyone has a passion. One thing that you think of when you wake up in the morning. One thing that makes you want to keep moving forward, even when the end of the tunnel is pitch black. That one thing will be on your mind for your entire life. No matter what life throws at you, you will always have that one special thing…Continue

This week it has been HOT and muggy down here in N.C.. My body is having some trouble adjusting to the heat this year, nothing major, but the heat came on so quickly! I have really needed my canes to walk this week. At least I can still ride at a walk!
This all worked out good with Mia. When I got to the stable Debbie's husband brought Mia up like he usually does, and…Continue
So, for the first time ever, I have no crazy story to tell. But this time, it's about my observations.
People say animals can't "reason" or that they aren't "intelligent". I have to say I dissagree, specially when it comes to horses.
The lesson pony I currently ride, is a prick. He likes to desrupt your plans, which makes him a great pony as you need to be a step ahead of him at all times. So if your coming close to a jump, I actully see him turning his ears,…Continue

The name "Shakespeare" is synonymous with great literature. The Shakespeare of old is legendary. The Shakespeare quoted here is a legend in his own mind!…
Who hasn’t begged for a pony for Christmas? My generation scrutinized the color plates of horse breeds in the H volume of our aged Encyclopedia Britannica. Some of us read Black Beauty a dozen times. We held Man from Snowy River film festivals at home. Kids…Continue

The weather is pretty good. I am going to pony Stewie off of Joya today. Let's see how that works out, but first she must give little Leany a lesson. She absolutely loves her.
So who is going out tomorrow? I am planing to go sometime late morning early afternoon.

No, it's not about the pop group from the 90's!!
It's about the wettest start to the Royal Adelaide Show in a hundred years.
They say there were a thousand lightning strikes in the metro area, all I know is the thunder was so close it caused a traffic accedent in my pants!!
7.30am Friday, all 4 horses and the two ponys loaded well and we were out the gate on time on our way to the Show in good spirits. Tony Hall, Kate, Nick and Briony and myself looking forward to a…Continue
Dublin show at the Royal Dublin Society in Ballsbridge is the centrepiece and driving force for many in the Irish Equestrian community. It is so dominant in our culture that people just talk about it as ‘the horse show’, despite the fact that there are…Continue
So sad to hear that Oki Doki is no longer with us….who needs cheering up? The great thing about age is the ability to enjoy the little equine things that possibly were once hidden by the pursuit of rosettes in earlier days:…

At some point, riding lots of miles starts to feel a little redundant. Today, Robin and I rode around the buttes – we mixed it up a little by going over the steep pass down to Ave Q, then across to…Continue
Talk about falling off the wagon! Last week, the train derailed! Robin and I skipped our very first ride together on Monday – it was cold, and windy and raining early in the day, so we opted to miss this one time. I was also sick on Easter – woke up with a headache and nausea – it may have been my first experience with a migraine – so I was very worn out on Monday. Well, Tuesday, I…Continue

Wednesday Mar 17 – Happy St Patrick’s day!
This is a big teaching day, so not as much time to ride. I combined teaching a student with getting Belle worked. We just rode 40 minutes, doing about 2 walking miles on the trail and then some arena trot work. Happily, it is…Continue

Well, I settled for free lunging and wind sprints today. Not enough hours in the day. Still, for the week, Belle got ridden 3 times and free lunged twice, and I can’t recall when she has had that consistent of work schedule! Still, I need to…Continue
