Hello Everybody, it is so nice to find a big group of horse enthusiasts my age. Everytime I schedule riding lessons I am the oldest one and that makes me sad all the time. I don't know why. Anyway it's great meeting you all here. It warms my heart and that in the middle of winter. Happy Riding to all.

Thanx for the reply Nikki! This week it will be a bit warmer, nearing 20 f today. I'm anxious to work with my girl. The snow we had a month ago became nasty icey ridges everywhere. I am concerned that her footing will be a problem if I attempt to ride, so I think we will concentrate on ground work.

I agree Sharon, but I am SO ready to start riding again. I think I've missed more this winter than ever before, because of the weather. I noticed 4 ft. of snow in the round pen, guess it'll be a while before I can school in there. Warm weather next week will hopefully bare the roads!

It seems to me my horse needs less of a tune up after down time than I do. I had to take a month off riding (other than on trail) due to my back. Had my first lesson the other night and you would think I hadn't been on horse back in years the way I felt the next day. When did my body get so darn old!

Amy, there are various ways that people tune up their horses when they don't ride over the winter. Assuming that you have had his feet trimmed or had him shod, you could start with groundwork. I always double check the saddle fit again too in case there have been any changes. Once you're in the saddle, start with short distances at walk, increase the pace before you increase the distance & work up from there. Have fun :) Nikki

I am in Milton. We just got a bit of snow this evening. Just enough for a ground cover, but it is still cold -3 right now and going to -14. Yes I heard that Florida is not that warm these days either. Have a good one.

Cheers

Mary Jo Dresden is south of Sarnia, if you follow the St Clair River to about Wallaceburg then go inland about 10 miles you will hit Dresden, I am actually half way between Dresden and Chatham If that helps you. And London is in the Snow belt for sure, apparently they are trying to dig out of a big dump of recent snow while Dresden and Chatham area have maybe an inch or two of snow. Right now I am in Florida, no snow but the temps have dropped and they are warning all of the farmers here to prepare for frost for the next few days. Where are you in Canada.??

Hi Eileen
Thanks for the Geography Lesson, it has been a while. However, isn't Dresden between Sarnia and London? I have always known that as snowbelt area?

Mary Jo, the most southerly part of SWO is jokingly called the banana belt of Canada because it is the most southerly part of Canada and we get very mild winters most of the time. Of course there are always the exceptions on weather.
