Thanks for all your congrats, everyone! I am very excited by this step in my life. I'm in a serious life transition right now, addressing deeply personal issues through counseling, balancing that energy with my new path in karate (I call it the Yin and the Yang of my life) ... and ... I'm learning how to play the ukelele for fun!!! I sing with a trio and we're all taking up the instrument together so we can add another dimension to our performance. This is a very exciting time in my life -- I feel like I'm giving birth to my "self" in a way ... finally. It's worth every tear, I can tell you that much, and all these new and wonderful things, plus my beautiful, beautiful horse, are helping me to feel whole. Yes ... life begins at 40 something ...

Cindy --- the dojo I attend has a short meditational component at the beginning and end of every session. To me this is akin to those few precious moments we spend grooming our horses before we ride them .. it's a chance to assume the moment and get prepared for what is to come. The sessions themselves are very physical -- I've noticed great muscle tone developing all over plus I've lost about 5 lbs in the past month (maybe more, I haven't weighed myself lately.) I usually come out of the sessions soaking wet from sweat and happily exhausted. Such a great workout. Based on a discussion I had last night with one of the black belts I know that some dojos do not include meditation time and are all about the action, some of them even pumping up the power to rock music. I prefer the approach of the dojo where I am. Should you decide to do karate, I think you'll find it a very rewarding experience.

Get well soon, Lori ...

It was in alignment on the x-ray so they put me in a sling for a few days. I lived on Vicodin Sunday and Monday but now just taking Aleve. It's better. I am dying to ride by this weekend as I am leaving for a show next Thursday.

Ouch, Lori, I had surgery on my shoulder many years ago because it used to separate. Did yours go right back in or did someone have to (yikes) put it back in for you?

I joined this group last night, yes, I hate to admit I am over 40 too. I am presently nursing a separated shoulder that I received on Sunday when my mare and I decided to meet in the trailer! This sounds like a great group!

Dorothy, I was thinking of doing karate too. My neighbour is an instructor (dojo?) boy likes riding lessons and wants to do vaulting. I was thinking of trading riding lessons for his boy for karate lessons for me. Do you have to do some kind of chanting and meditation stuff? or do you just learn the moves and "fly at 'er" so to speak?

Hey Marie-Lynn ... just join!!!! You'll fit right in ...

By the way, y'all ... in the spirit of "you're never too old" ... I earned my Yellow Belt in Karate this evening ... a wonderful mental, physical and spiritual achievement. (I'm over 45). This activity is already changing my life in so many positive ways, including helping me with my riding (mental focus, co-ordination, timing, etc.) ... I'm very excited. Orange Belt next ... give me six months ... :-)

Mary-Lynn, in order to join any of the groups on here just click onto the name of the group of your choice and the name of the group will show up just under the group and events line at the top of the page it has a plus sign by it, click onto that and answer the questions and fill out the blanks and you will be a member. At least I think that is what I did, I don't remember details like I used to. lol
