Yesterday I fell off my horse, lacerated elbow and very sore shoulder. She spooked and I didn't stay in the English saddle. I can only lift my arm up to my waist, nothing broken, so they say, but holy crap, I can hardly move. I couldn't get back on the horse, I couldn't pull my self up. Did any of you ever fall and get hurt? How long did it take to get back on?

Oh, I forgot to mention, Frommer's Mexico 2009 touts it as "the most challenging ride in North America."

I'm going on a horseback adventure in the Sierra Madre, July 1st or 2nd until whenever (could be 2 days, 3, up to a week max I guess).

They normally run rides for a minimum of 2 people, but are hurting so bad this year because of people's fears of Mexico that they have agreed to take me alone. Anyone care to join me? Don't worry about the flu any more, it has moved on to the USA and Canada now.

That's right, Barbara! I'm finally dismounting again with some grace as having the pinned and casted right wrist made me mount and dismount rather less than gracefully!

We've been up since 5, and we're breakfasted and coffee'd, Connie's braiding and Anne's on her way to braid. KC and I are off to the grounds as KC's scoring all day and I have 9 riders to coach. I'll race home with the truck at noon and hitch up and haul Whimsey down for her tests this afternoon. The weather's beautiful, so it should be a good day.

We had a hilarious pre-show party last night at Christa's, fueld by the news that Nuke's continuing to improve, and the surgeon thinks we can bring him home early this coming week. We're all going out for dinner together tonight, and the post-show party promises to be a riot.

I'll keep you all posted!

Hey, you know Barbara ... it's all relative. Every little triumph makes us stronger and gives us firmer legs to stand on. One of the marvels of being "our age" is that we can look at our little mistakes (and big ones too) with a sense of humour and realize it isn't the end of the world. It just is what it is! I congratulate you on being able to "bounce back" and take that unconventional dismount in stride. What a great story to tell your friends on Barnmice!!! :-)

That sounds so exciting, Dorothy. I am just trying to dismount with some level of pride. Yesterday, I took my foot out of the stirupps, threw my right leg over, down to try standing, lost my balance, landed up laying flat in the sand ring, immediately jumped up and threw my hands up and yelled,"Taddda".It was a funniest video moment.! LOL I didn't want to seem like it was not a prank fall. You have to imagine a Fuller Filly like me trying to dismount, it just isn't going to happen softly. I tried cantering today, well, that's an even better image for another time.....

Speaking of showing ... I'm taking Bear to his very first dressage show on Sunday (first show of any sort, actually). We're starting at Training level just to create a good experience and we'll see how it goes from there. I haven't shown in four years, so it's like starting all over again. But I am excited!! New breeches (purchased last time I showed and they still fit ... yeh!); new helmet; new gloves; new attitude (because I am older and thus wiser ... ;-) ) I just want to be able to give Bear a positive experience where he can grow in confidence (and I with him) and we can create a good foundation for all the shows to follow. :-)

Hi again! Nuke is doing better today, and his preliminary urinalysis was normal. We're still waiting for cultures etc., but he ate hay all night and has produced normal manure today (amazing how caught up we get in excretory processes - just like having a baby!). He belongs to a client of mine (lives with me) and she competes him at the Grand Prix level in dressage. She owns 2 other DWB's, and I compete both of them for her. My family still rides in competition as well, and we are heading into yet another show this Saturday/Sunday.

Don't feel sorry that you're learning, Barbara. We all are, and hopefully will continue to. One of my Dutch coaches (who is an Olympic and World Cup medallist) says there's not enough time in one lifetime to learn everything about horses, and I have no doubt that he is right. You have embarked on an amazing journey, please enjoy every stride! Competition is not everything - in fact, while I enjoy competition, I mostly compete in order to justify daily training to the unwashed masses, who otherwise would think I was nuts for doing it!
