Thank you all for the kind and amusing postings to read. I just got home from a day from hell at school, and have to go back soon to do a lot of marking. Thank goodness there was this pleasant interlude!

LOL different locations of various body parts indeed! ...Truth is I'm okay with my differently configured body just as long as it still does the things I need it to do (ride horses and be strong an capable), what I am really finding hard to take is the demise of my face.

Hi, everyone!

I got home from Chicago late last night and am catching up on things. It was a very good show, and we had a super time. My Dad placed well in all his classes, with results which start his international ranking for the post-Olympic year, and he got his Certificate of Capability, which he needs for WEG in Lexington next year.

The weather ranged from sunburns to tornado warnings to flood warnings, and Phil's first ride was interrupted by a lightning strike which caused an announcement that "all riders" were to dismount immediately and return on foot with their horses to the stabling area until futher notice. This was followed by a further announcement that the rider currenty riding his test (Phil) was to continue the test through to completion regardless of the threat. Needless to say the situation interfered with Phil's (and Nathan's) focus, and their subsequent canter work was lacking the quality they'd had to that point in the trot and canter tours. It was still enough to finish ahead of US riders from the Hong Kong team, so we were very pleased.

Nathan was a star, shipping 2,200 miles in good form, and working through the monsoons and heavy winds like a real trouper. Phil had only ridden him perhaps 10 times prior to this competition, and the horse has not done a lot of competing, and they both acquitted themselves admirably.

We had Ms. Supergroom, Alice Beatty (she's groomed for Canadian riders at the World Cup for jumpers and dressage, and for Canadian riders at the Olympics for jumpers and dressage, among other international jumpers and dressage riders), who was not only fabulous with Nathan but tons of fun. She and I watched the Preakness in our hotel room, jumping on the beds and shrieking throughout - we wanted both Rachel Alexander and Mine That Bird to win!

Right now things are not so great as Nuke (Christa's GP horse), who was recovering well from his colic surgery, has taken a turn for the worse. The blood work indicates that something's amiss with his kidneys (hence the wildly fluctuating WBC counts) so we're waiting for the internist to see him and give us some insight. Christa's in Langley with him, and she and I are in touch by phone. Hopefully we'll have a clearer picture of his situation and prognosis soon.

My friends start arriving tomorrow for our spring show this coming weekend, and that will really be fun. I have 4 coming with horses from the BC coast, and another 3 coming from Calgary, in addition to my home area riders, so the coaching will be hot and heavy!

Cindy - part of being over 40 (in fact, I'm over 50) is coming to terms with the new locations of various body parts...however, wisdom and patience hopefully accompany those changes, and I'd rather have the wisdom and the patience than the flat tummy and bouncy boobs!

Did I mention how wonderful I think this group is and how much I love talking with you and sharing. :-)

Thanks Shirley for your kind comments and encouragement it really helps to know others have the same struggles too. BD is belly dancing and I know it would really help strengthen my core muscles. I guess I just gotta get some really dancing type music on and shake my booty for an hour, it would help with cardio too. Trouble is there always seems to be something more pressing to take care of.

Yes, Cindy being embarassed by our body is silly (but common) beyond silly and really sad. I go threw this feeling too. I
follow your comments often and you have so much to be proud of in the person you are. Much more important then the body we end up with that is often totally out of our control. Since I can only see your warm friendly smile ...that is a great start. Just do the best you can to keep that body healthy and then be glad you have many friends that know those are the most important things.
Just what is a BD? I know the answer to this is also gonna make me feel silly! Shirley

Hey Bastian I'm glad the BD went well for you. If I lived near where you are I would have tried it to. When I was in my 20's I used to do that stuff, but now I'm a little embarrassed with the way my body looks now, so BD presents some fear for me. I'm sure if I tried it again my fears would disappear eventually. Sounds silly doesn't it to be embarrassed of the body when we've all had children which puts us in most embarrassing situation, as well as being terrilbly ill and doctors and nurses are poking and prodding us. Definitely something I need to work on.
