Thanks ladies, much appreciated, it's great to be able to come to this site and share a day like that knowing there are others that will understand and cheer you up. Thanks again a good night sleep will be great, after I check on him one more time.

Hey, Cindy, so glad your boy came out of that okay. He might think twice about hopping the fence now, eh? Glad you're okay too. Can only imagine how harrowing that must have been. Get a good night's sleep. Cheerz!

Wow Cindy, what a day you had...it looks like we were posting about the same time...my previous message was not a reply to your days events. I mean it looks like I am saying...oh that was great that your horse could have died right in front of you. I just had to explain why my message sounds so lame the way it was timed. I am glad that things worked out well for both you and the horse. How did you manage to come out with out a scratch. ?? Like you say there must have been someone there looking after you both,.

Sounds good, lucky for me my main trail horse is pretty energetic and can handle just about any trail.

Well everyone it has been an eventful day and not all positive. i was out in the round pen with my 6 year old gelding doing some free lungeing, al was going well when he decided this wasn't for him and jumped out of the pen..at least he tried. In the process he got his left hind caught between the 2 upper bars of the HiQual panels with his body weight pressing down on the caught leg. We were alone...no one around for miles...good thing I had my cell phone to call a friend for help. Wouldn't you know everyone I tried there was no answer, of course by now I'm trying very hard not to panic and freak the horse. So, I do the talking to self thing running through all the things I could try to get him out of this mess. I couldn't leave him and go for help I was afraid I would have a dead horse or one with a broken leg from his thrashing around. Since we were free lungeing I looked around for his halter which was on a near by post. I tell him to Whoa (duh, we say the dumbest things under stress) and go get the halter all the while dialing again for help on my cell (no 911 here). I realize that if I can get the halter on him i could support his head. Doing this I found I was able to move him carefully from being lodged between the panel he was stuck in and the dirt bank on the outside of the pen. Once that was done I saw that I just had to lift his hind foot from being stuck and by shifting his position slightly he was able to get his front feet under him and balance while I quickly and almost effortlessly (I'm sure an invisible someone was helping, i'm not that strong) unstuck his foot. Well here we are with this horse balancing on top of the top panel rail and you could tell he was relieved. We waited for a few moments, i wanted to see if he could stand on the leg after being pretzeled like it was....sure enough he moved it and stood on it for a few seconds you could tell it was sore. We waited a little longer until he looked at me as if to say 'what next?' He knew he was better off than before but didn't want to spend the rest of his life balancing on a panel rail. I never realized how agile this horse is, i new about the jumping thing cause he's the guy always getting out and breaking fences, anyway, I made sure his hind feet were on the ground then i rocked him back by lifting my leading hand raising his head slightly and he did the rest, doing a rear to clear his front feet from the rail and walking backwards on his hind legs. Good thing this horse is a level headed guy, no panic in him. He came out of that with rub burns and bruising and i am very thankful. Watching him do that i had visions of watching my beautiful gelding die in front of me or having to put him out of his misery should his leg break. Needless to say he is on 2-3 days pen rest, isolated from the herd, until i can see no limping and there is no pain when palpated. Plus I am dressing those rub burns. It will be a good bonding time for us. Boy...that was a stressful day. I walked him around lots, stopping, turning, etc. then brushed him, tacked him up, led him somemore all in the round pen just so he would be afraid to go there again. Gave him two doses of Arnica fifteen minutes apart, led him somemore and put him in his pen with his dinner. Whew, that was a close one. Me? not a scratch, blood pressure went up a little though. ;-)

My friend sent me a link to a map, but now I can't find it. If I remember correctly there is a 6k loop but it joins with the Bruce Trail, on which you can take longer loops. My friend's pony is 23 years old, and although she hacks almost every day, they are very gentle hacks and the pony is a bit fat. I don't know if she can handle much more than that.

Last summer we trailered to Hilton Falls for a hack and Amber would have liked to go a lot longer and harder, but old Pembroke couldn't.

I checked out Scottsdale Property on Google and it says that there is only 6km of trail...is that right? Or does the property hook up to that Credit River Conservation area where horses are allowes. You can tell that I am not familiar with that area. I could just park my rig like you say if there is permission for that...and then when done riding carry on to Orangeville where I now I can stay for the night. The carry on and find other places to ride and camp, but it would be great to be able to meet and ride for the afternoon if I can find someone to look after things here when I am gone.

Awesome! Hey Heather, would you consider asking your friend if we could park the rig at her place and ride there with her and you? I think that nobody actually has permission to ride there, and my friend and I (knowing that someone had been riding there, because she saw the hoofprints) were a bit worried about poking around too much, lest we inadvertently draw attention to the possibility and ruin it for whomever was riding there already.

Yes Miss Mexico you can join us Canadians in a ride. We should figure out some sort of schedule. I was just reading the Rider and some of the ads for trail riding. Not sure what I can handle as far as getting away. I have to get someone to look after things when I am away having fun. i never heard of Scotsdale Property, what is it. Being a country bumpkin in SWO I don't get out a lot lol..This would be hoot if we could do this.
