Hey guys! I'm just over 40. 42 to be exact. But I feel older most days!! The horses are definitely keeping me on my toes! Was worse last year when my one horse severed his extensor tendon and had to look after him twice a day with his meds and just grooming for his sanity. But he was amazing. Was quiet and well behaved. I started him back in March. I still ride at Dreamcrest once a week as does my daughter. I have no plans to give up showing any time soon either!! We also live on a dairy farm so that helps with keeping in shape and sort of feeling young!

I will have to remember that Annette, I am 5 years behind her so maybe I have a chance, and my mom is 92 years old and the last time she was on a horse was her 80th birthday. lol
Catherin, good for your daughter to be so interested in riding no matter the weather. Let's hope that she keeps that attitued upto and until she can help you with all of the chores. lol

had another ride yesterday my 8 year old daughter was pestering me from 7 am to go for a ride. howling a gale but thought ok. saddled mac up and put him in the middle of her little arena then we took turns in doing different things around the outside. he went well even rode him over to the big shed where my husband was working.

baby steps baby steps.

Yes the horses give me a reason to get up in the morning, someone has to feed all of those mouths big and small in the barn. Then the work that is required in and around the barn, fencing, handling hay, etc etc. You gotta be in shape to keep up with the everyday chores.
secrets to staying young of course is
looking after all of your horses
LOl I made that up,

Some people say grand-kids keep you young. In my case horses do. Both would be nice but so far 'grandma' isn't a name for me. When I first started riding at 50 my annual lab work was getting 'unhealthy' looking. Within a month of riding, everything went into the normal range. Now 8 years later I find I need to get on my feet more with my horse rather then sitting in the saddle. But it's wonderful to have a horse to keep me motivated. Cleaning your horses stall helps too. I did that for the first three years I had my horse. Now I don't 'have' to but now and then I do clean it and I can really feel it. Doing some of the fast moving Parelli ground-work when playing with your horse certainly is a good work-out too.

Many of us are over 50, Cathy, and quite a few over 60, too. Love your picture!
