Welcome back to the horse world! And how marvellous that you have a "boy" who's horse crazy!!!! I hope you have a chance to get back int he saddle soon. It's never too late you know ... ;-)
Dressage is great! I took it up after a tragic accident over fences that claimed the life of the horse I was riding. Although I did jump again after that, I never really got my nerve back ... at least not to the point where I found jumping to be as fun as it used to be. So, I took up dressage and realized just how little I knew about riding (after 30 or so years in the saddle), and have not looked back. Bear loves to jump, and I will pop him over a small fence every once in a while to please him, but there is no joy in it for me anymore. I much prefer the satisfaction to be found in finally achieving balanced and through movement at all the paces, and in the lateral movements. Bear likes it too!
Hi everyone. Wow I am so impressed with this group. I love hearing all the stories. I am 39, rode for 10 years as a child, and very little since. I now have a horse crazy little boy who is leading me back in. I have leased a mini for him at a barn that treats us like gold. Anyway, I can teach him the basics and soon I hope to ride again.
Very brave to do eventing. I am, or was a hunter. Tyler loves to jump but like his rider (me) has a slight case of degeneration of the joints. A medical term for arthritis. He is on smart packs. My next big prurchase will be a trailer of my own. Now we use the barn's trailer. It will have to be a 7'6 to fit him. I would love to try Dressage, I have all the books.
Today I was at the barn and called it "Bear therapy." That's what my horse really is for me now ... a healing escape from a world of cares. He's still young, at seven years old, and I'm in my mid 40s, so I'm looking forward to many happy years with my beautiful boy.

Hi people. I am an over 50 rider who didn't ride for the 13 years I was married, then took a few more years to manage to get back to it. I have had horses again for 10 years. My beloved NSH mare, Amber, and I have been together for 8 years, since she was 2. I did all her training myself, which is something I had always wanted to do, and I am just so proud of her I could burst! We mostly just hack and tear around, but whenever I feel like I can afford the trailering (!) we go to the odd schooling-level show or fair. We do jumper, dressage, team penning, have done some hunter but Amber said it was too boring ;-) and I would really love to do eventing! Oh, and as you see in the picture I sometimes ride without tack.
Hello! I am an over 50 rider who has been riding for about 8 years now - mainly because my daughter took lessons and, I guess, something rubbed off on me! I never rode when I was younger so this has been a great learning experience for me. I show a bit but not seriously - just like to get out and fun with the horses and other horsey people. I took up driving last year - that is so fun! I hope to spend 20 years around horses to make up for lost time!
Wow! I thought my baby was tall at 17 hands. A far distance to fall anymore. At my age, 54, (did I really say that! LOL) I don't run my horse into the ground like the young kids at the barn. I think more about my hands and seat these days. Gentle on the mouth! Tyler has become my companion when I want to escape work and relax. As to winter, well! being off the track he has power to spare so, before I mount up I let him kick, buck and crow hop to his hearts content before I get on his back!
I am a 50+ rider that rode when I was younger and got back into it 4 years ago when I received some lessons from my hubby for my birthday.
I now lease a Clydesdale gelding, (same stable)he has a wonderful temperment, and learns fast. He is 18.3 and 3/4 hands and is so willing and forgiving.
I ride english H/J and yes he can jump, nothing big... low verticals but always tries. He does walk, trot, canter and has come along way from when I started to ride him(he was a pasture ornament and not in good condition) I digress. I ride for the joy of it, not for competition but to improve a little each day and to help Clyde be healthy happy and in great shape.
