Thank you ladies for your encouragement, I really appreciate it. :) I live 14 hours north of you April, I was raised in Chilliwack and sometimes I miss the winter weather there. Especially when I feel like I do this winter. But the blessing here is we only get mud at "break up". When we actually get the final thaw of the winter and spring is on it's way. That can be a real drag for a couple of weeks but at least I can get out and work with the horses. I can relate about the people care, I don't have my parents anymore and hubby's parents are gone as well but there is always someone, usually kids who need care. Right now my youngest daughter is due to have her baby any day now, so there is that to look forward to. Third time gramma :) It's exciting and I'm more ready then I was the first time around.

Chin up Cindy. I know how you feel, but we can only do what we can do. I don't have an indoor either, and here on the west coast we are knee deep in mud. I'm hoping to get my young Standie ready for the schooling shows this Spring, but between the weather, having to work for a living, an elderly parent to look after and my bad hips it is a challange. Slow but sure though, I know I'll get there. Come on Spring!

don't stress it cindy! not everyone has arenas or indoor arenas! you can only do what is possible, and if its that icy, it's not safe to take the horse out and hack or whatever. i am a firm believer that horses need some down time too, so i doubt your hurting them. if a serious competitor, then the down time means it takes longer to get there but..... one can only do what one can!! you can plan your sessions for when the weather starts to cooperate. chin up- and don't fall on the ice again.

Winter is the hardest for me, I don't have access to an indoor arena and I suffer from S.A.D. which slows me down to a halt most days along with pain issues. I look at my horses and all I can do is feed them and mosey around a bit on the ice checking with them and back in the house I go. It's annoying and pitiful and I'm getting angry as I write thinking about it. Grrrrrr! I guess that's a good sign, maybe I'll get angry enough to get out and get going. I also suffered a fall on the ice (a horseless fall) and smashed my right knee pretty good on cement (covered in ice), fortunately nothing was broken just badly bruised and that slowed me down considerably. Sure didn't need that, I think I'm already slow enough, apparantly the 'man upstairs' didn't think so :)

The horses are also getting faster!
My riding keeps me going.

We had a guy in our neighborhood, 99, rode every day... I heard he passed away.....

David - loved your comment - I also notice my horse is getting wider - my leg just doesn't swing like it used to - damn hips!

Yup, likewise. I can usually handle at two to three hour trail ride but not more than that, and a twenty minute training session in the ring can turn me into a cripple for about two days. But no way am I giving up riding!

So true....but there are days when the pain is too much and it lasts for weeks till you feel like your becoming a bump on a log floating down the river :) But I will never give up!

You have the right attitude, David. I'm not giving up ever on riding and no one is going to take it away from me. I knew an old fellow who rode until 79, needed 2 guys to lift him onto the saddle. He died after untacking and grooming his horse after a nice long ride - great way to go. Don't give up!!
