LOL I have seen a certain Jack Russel continually jump up and down like she was on a trampoline but there was none...I am sure you have seen them too. They must have built in springs in those short little legs of theirs.

I am impressed your dogs can use the trampoline. But then, my dogs with their miniature daschund legs...pretty useless for anything..;-)

Well, the horse has a sitter for a week, the cat is in boarding for a week and the old man and I are taking the 2 dogs and their PFDs away to a lodge for 5 days. They can swim, kayak, and also use a trampoline and so off we go tomorrow. More work than packing for a kid for camp or kids to university. Gail.

Thanks Gail, he did have his teeth done in March. Dentist removed 5 caps, he turned 3 this June 28th. Maybe he does have some more new teeth coming in, never thought of that. I am not going to use the bit again for awhile, going to stick with the halter.

Cathy, that does not surprise me about the Misery. I have stayed away all summer because of the rain and mosquito infestation. For such little itty bitty critters they sure can scare people away from some decent riding. Maybe ti will be better in Oct. I will be home here in Oct for a couple of weeks in Oct and the very first part of November. Hopefully I will get some time to get out there...good luck with the lessons. Is it Pat C that is still there. ??

Kate-sounds like you have encountered an unpleasant event in your life "at the moment". Maybe things will turn around for you. I went without horses in my life for 10 years. Then, after I tore my barn down and fence, thinking its over, no more horses for me, I bought this guy who came into my life!

Hey Eileen, still making the drive to ride my horse at the moment. But, going for a few lessons at the old Bothwell Equestrian Centre soon. Might move there, we'll see how it goes. Skunk's Misery is still mosquito buggy and very swampy with all the rain. Even Wally don't ride there, and he lives there!

Cathy, another question What is the mosquito/deef fly situation at the Misery right now. I can only imagine with all of the rain and the 2 weeks of tropical temps that it is "enter at your own risk" sort of thing. Did you ever move your horse closer to the good riding.??

I don't know if there is any evolutionary reason for our totally illogical addiction to horses.
I am glad you found your horse a good home. I am also horseless now, just facing up to the facts of my disabilities (MS.) I kept my horses until the side effects of old age dictated putting them down. I stay sane by taking lessons and riding other people's horses. It can get expensive, but when you think of the cost of owning--feed, shoeing, training, tack, vet, etc., it ends up being a lot cheaper, and there are no unexpected and expensive horse emergencies to pay for. And occasionally I get to ride for free, but I try not to abuse it because I know how expensive it is to keep a riding horse.
I hope you find away to get your "fix" of horses regularly. They certainly make life more worth while. Determination will count a lot here, as will willingness to do the less pleasant jobs around horses-like cleaning stalls which I cannot do because of my MS. Good luck!

I haven't decided to stop riding but current economics forced me to let my gelding mount of six years go to a home with better long-term security than I can presently offer. A company eliminated my job and after exhausting all creative angles, I had to eliminate my horse's job here. He moved on to a wonderful summer at williowhillfarm.com and I'm extremely grateful to know he's being worked constructively and among a happy herd on lots of land. Horse receptor still aches at the site of horses and I can't get close enough to them yet to smell them. All this makes me wonder if some people have an equine receptor that hasn't yet evolved out in response to developments that superseded our practical need for horses. Any information on evolutionary reasons for human/horse bonds greatly appreciated.
