Good to hear that most of us try and keep the head in one piece. I replace mine every year as it often gets dropped.

Karen, I am also in the habit. Saddle, helmet, bridle, gloves is my order in tacking! We had a woman a few years ago fall off with a helmet on in the arena and died almost instantly. She was trotting her horse and fell and hit the back of her head. Her family has put a memorial sign on one of our posts and it reminds me every time I ride how dangerous it can be and life can change in an instant.

I never used to wear a helmet, then starting on 'problem horses' only. Now I wear one all the time. It becomes a habit like a seat belt in the car, - boots, saddle, bridle, helmet in that order of tacking!

I wear a helmet every time, every ride and I ride 6 days per week. I am also a nurse who worked in a neuro ICU in my younger days and saw too often the effects of a traumatic brain injury.

Well as you can see by my avatar I don't always wear a helmet. Yes I know I should but just never got into the habit.

I always wear a regulation helmet. I was convinced when an acquaintance fell off her horse, couldn't walk or recognize her parents for a year, took 3 years to recover - wasn't wearing a helmet. Since then, I've heard of other accidents that would have been minor if the rider had worn a helmet. Plus - check out the marks/cracks in your helmet when you do fall. My head is worth it.

I thought I would ask a question of this group as there are more in it than the over 60's. How many people in this group wear a helmet when they ride. I know when I was young lol we did not wear them. What about now? I know I never go without it but wondered who else did or did not and why? There you go! Should spark some interest. Gail.

Maureen, I hope this is your perfect pony, healthy, cooperative and well trained. You've certainly have been searching a loooong time.

I heard about the awful goings on at RCRA. It was all over EMG. Good for finding the pony. It was a long search. Hope it works and keep us posted. Gail.

Hello to everyone.
We had very dangerous storm her in Southern Ontario yesterday with several tornado touchdowns. One of the horse barns was badly hit RCRA with much damage done to buildings, trailers and cars. I was talking to a lady who was there and who said that she witnessed ponies being thrown into the air. Thankfully no horses or people were seriously hurt. It was a miracle.
On a lighter note, I think I may have found the perfect pony for my granddaughter. She is 11 years old, Welsh pony, a dark chestnut roan, and is a quiet little soul. She is coming to my barn on Monday for a two-week trial period. Keep yer fingers and toes crossed. I'm as excited about this pony as I was when I got my first horse. Do y'all remember that feeling?
