Hi, Linda:

I don't like receiving product information either, but I have to say that as a professional coach and trainer I know that I can't assume that others have the resources to enable them to even know who these people are, or that those products exist. It's hard for them to use the internet to search for things like that. Also, I think it's easy to assume that everyone has (a) high speed internet (it wasn't available to me until 2 months ago), and (b) equal research abilities. I run into many technologically challenged people in my travels, and I think they still need to have information presented to them. However, I also think that your suggestion about a sidebar or perhaps dedicated group/area for advertisers is a good one, and perhaps this site's administrator could look at implementing your suggestion.

Hi Jan;
Yes we are spread all over the world, but we clearly all have internet or we wouldn't be on this site. If I want info on Chris Irwin or any other expert, I can access it easily by actively looking for it on the net. I don't mind someone suggesting a source for information or goods. What I do mind is someone pitching product on this site. I'm interested in what other over 50 riders deal with on a daily basis. This site seemed to be for "just plain folks" who love horses, who find the trials and tribulations of getting older funny, frustrating, challenging and want to discuss it with other people. I am put off when a person starts flogging product to us. Maybe the site manager could offer a sidebar where equine products could be sold and those of us who are curious/interested could access the information. But I can assure you, having to wade through a pitch by someone just annoys me and turns me against their product.

Hi, Linda and PJ.

While ordinarily I would agree it appears to me that this site is answering a definite need for people spread all over the world, and in particular for those in North American and Australia, where distance causes many headaches for horse owners.

I think that having a site where people can reach out to experts like Jane Savoie and Chris Irwin, not to mention the many well-qualified and experienced individuals who use the site, is really helpful. Some extremely interesting and important topics have been , are, and will be discussed by all kinds of contributors, and personal access to expertise usually only found in magazines is a boon to many of us. I'm not a fan of advertising in the usual sense, but lots of what's on this site is pertinent to many users, and they'd have a hard time finding it otherwise.

Maybe I'd find your wares of interest, PJ, and maybe what you have to offer is something I've been unable to find thus far...I don't have to read anything in which I'm not interested...

Hey Linda....I agree I signed up at this site thinking it was just a place for horse crazy people to share their stories. I have a horse industry business but this is not a place to flog my wears. I have noticed many here are in the commercial business. Contacts are great when the recipient has asked for them!

Is there any way to keep this site commercial free? I object to it being used as a billboard by anyone who is in the equine business. It's one thing if you have a pony to sell or a saddle, - great networking, but it seems inappropriate to be advertising commercial equine ventures on the site. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

*laughing*
good idea Ann.
I saw a couple of ponies over the weekend...one needed a stick of dynamite under his tail to make him go...one was too young with too much go, and the other was a rig!
Can you understand my frustration? Maybe it's time for a little break in this pony hunt. I'm beginning to weary of it. I'm sure in September when all the school ponies are finished their work for the season, something will come up.

Hi Maureen, Yes, Kolur would be too much for a five year-old, though not for too long. It is hard to find a pony for a little one. I do have horses, to answer your question: 8 horses (well- one pony) one mule and one donkey jack. Five are mares for breeding mules.

If you have several little grandchildren coming up you might want to consider a well-trained small donkey. They put up with a great deal from children and seldom get silly or excited. When you run out of grandchildren you can drive the donkey in a cart or have it as a companion to a horse or sell it on to another family with little kids.

Glad I decided to go on the hunt for you Maureen. I think you are right about the timing at end of summer when things may become more available. That is what my friend Barb Weatherall said. She would have some for sale when the fairs were done. Don't forget her phone # 705-357-3894. You can also google: Charlies's Pride Ponies and end up on her website. Gail.

Greetings to you Ann out there in BC. I've heard it is truly beautiful there. BC is on my most-wan- to-visit list. Mmmmm...some day.

As for your dear pony... I need this pony for a 5 year old beginner rider and it sounds like your guy has a little bit more spirit! than would be safe for her at this stage. I love the Icelandic breed and I'm sure you will find him a great home. He sounds like a personality.
So you've decided to raise mules. I see them at the exhibition here in Ontario each year, I just adore their nature. Do you have any horses?
I think if I owned my own property, it would be like a magnet for every kind of 4 legged beastie. I board my own horse at a boarding barn and enjoy every minute that I spend there. How fortunate we all are to have the opportunity to live in the country with our four-legged family.
Anyway, thanks again.
