Cindy, So sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like you have a good handle on the idea of loosing your mare. I thought your vision was pretty special.
There is a conversation on here about 'our horses passing' where there has been some good conversations. It's a very new discussion. If you haven't seen it, I will try to link it to you.
I don't know what a maiden mare is. My best guess is that it might be similar to the idea of an 'old maid' with humans, one that is single. Am I close, a mare with no babies? We in MIchigan have had a big change in temperature rather quickly and that seems to invite colic problems.
Is Lordosis another horse or a disease or something else?
I hope your other 5 horses do well.
Oh Cindy...I am so sorry to hear about your beautiful mare. May she have her turn to be Boss mare in heaven.

Our mare Gweek Flicker 'N Firelight passed away in the wee hours of Friday morning. She was a 10 yr old maiden mare with Lordosis. Since she was on range with her 5 brothers it is most likely colic. When I found her body there wasn't a mark on her, no broken bones, but evidence of laying down, rolling and getting up again. We moved her to a private location on the land but could bury her due to the frozen ground. While her body feeds the wildlife, her spirit runs free. I was given a vision in my quiet time of her running towards me then turning just in time bucking and kicking like a young filly. Peace reigns in my heart.
I just got back from 3 days at Equine Extravaganza in Richmond , Va. It was held at The Meadows farm, the birthplace and racing home of both Riva Ridge and Secretariat. It was totally awesome. The best trainers and clinicians in the country and a couple from Australia still here from the World Equestrian Games . I love constantly learning from the best people.
Not here, It is like a circus, no one wanted to change the rein, My instructor told me when to change, every one just stayed on the left rein. It made me more nervous do that then jumping. but I am not going to give up shows, My belgian/TB needs to get use to the tents people put up right next to the show ring, That is another subject I guess I should not get started with.
i guess they're more conservative here. i've never seen much of a problem- only the odd person who's new to the discipline- and they're told pretty quick!
