Cindy I appreciate this advice. I have my Vet coming soon to do all my horses yearly shot and will tell him of this new birth when I call and make the appoitment this year. I have to ask him to bring someone else along anyway as I do not want to be the one again to have to twitch my gelding. Him and I have come so far and I don't want him blaming me again.

But this little guy I do have another concern. Yes, I am touching him and he loves to be scratched etc. And now he is nibbling he is a week tomorrow Wednesday and has a nice set of teeth there. When and how do I push him away and how firm should I be.

He is also loving the hugs and kisses, but get so excited that he is kicking a bit too close , what do I do ?

I know I should know all this , but I thought I would be prepared. I am not !!! I don't want him scared of me but at the same time. I also need to nip this in the butt so to speak.

His Mom is wonderful she has had lots of foals before and she is happy to nudge him to me.

As a previous morgan breeder I guess the advice to give is to figure out what direction you want to go with him. He will reveal his talents to you as he grows, but there will come a time when he will need to be pointed in some direction ie. reining, jumping, dressage, recreation, driving, barrel racing or a combination for stuff cause morgans are super versatile. For now just enjoy him, make sure he has his vitamin K shot and any vaccines necessary for your area. Mostly mom's milk protects him, but just like human babies there are vaccines necessary for his protection, be sure to check with your vet. Having a new baby of any sort is exciting especially a foal, kinda leaves you in awe and wondering what the future will bring. You can start handling him, rubbing him gently all over so he gets used to your touch and smell. Even picking up his feet as soon as he will let you, will make it a whole lot easier when he's a big horse (yes unfortunately they grow up, quickly too!). Your mare if not an experienced mare at having foals may want to keep her baby from you, so approach carefully.

My God I could not imagine, so sad. My Mare was late and from everything I read that was a good sign for a boy. I was hoping for a colt, but it was so funny I could not tell at first. But I would have been ok with a girl too. I now don't know what I will do . He has some wonderful lines and all we can hope for is great conformation in the next few years.

Cam and Boo's foal died in the womb, Boo was overdue, turned out the umbilical cord broke in the womb, foal soon stopped breathing, mare delivered a dead foal, perfect in every way. Very, very sad :-( Thanks for the good news to offset the sad.

Yes, that was pretty stupid of me not to include all that. And your right it is a he. I was hoping for a boy and he is a nice one at that. My first bred Morgan Colt. I will name him Copper Lee, he is 100% Foundation. Sire A-1,s Jim Dandy X Duplicate Liberty.
