Welcome Cathy, It sounds like you have a lot to balance. I have a draft thoroughbred cross, that is 17.1 hands high and is 6 yrs old, I have been working on jumping him, I do have good days and bad, and I am learning alot from my trainer. We just keep moving forward

Hello, everyone,

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself as I am new to this group. I have two horses (a 28 year old Standarbred, who is a real sweety, and a 9year QH/Morgan cross; I ride just for pleasure and am continually working on improving whatever skills I may have; I have two grandchildren and am still working full time, so I have to make sure I make the time for my horses; I'm looking forward to reading about and learning about all the folks and ideas in this group.

Yes, I know. It is hard to make the choice sometimes as to what I want to do that day. And of course, work and an elderly parent are taking up a lot of my time too.
I have just booked myself in for an artist/horseperson's show for the Spring and will be setting up a booth at the stud farm where it is being held. Hopefully I will get some commissions!

Nice work. I use to do a lot of pet portraits years ago, but I now lean more towards the horses. Once a year I put together with 4 other artists and have a fine art show in my indoor riding arena. This year were going to have 3 guest artists so we will have a total of 8 in the arena. It gives me something to work towards, so I'm doing more painting all summer as a result. Sometimes the pull to ride is just too great!!

Wow Karen! What beautiful work you do, especially the waterscapes! You and I share the same two passions, art and animals. I do alot of portrait work right now and keep saying I want to get back into scenic and illustration type work, but I'm on my own and still trying to make a living so I just don't have the time I would like to spend on my painting.
Hopefully I will be able to retire one day. Like yourself I know I would be able to fill the days quite thoroughly.

I guess little horse crazy girls grow up to be older horse crazy women.
I've been retired for just about 3 years now and I've been chasing my two passions vigorously, horses and art. There is nothing better than finally having the time to go to the barn and just commune with my horses or simply stand there and watch them. I never have enough time, and seem to always be in a hurry. However being bored never happens, more likely exhaustion from trying to cram too much living into a day. Oh yeah there is never enough money!! And I will always buy something for my boys before I put anything on my own back. My husband just shakes his head and continues to build, design, and fix up everything imaginable for my horses and art. Check out my passions on www.thecoachhousegallery.com

Thank you Shirley, I appreciate you for keeping the word out there about the wild horses. Someplaces in Alberta they are still shipping these horse for meat. In B.C. the wild horses in the Brittainy Triangle in the Chilcotin are protected and the Nemiah people are watching out for them. Riders can go in and visit on trail rides but must not go near them. You gotta watch though that one of the herd stallions doesn't steal your horse away while your asleep :) Someday I would like to go there, I have a friend who takes people out there. Guess what it's mostly women that go too. Yey for girl power! :)
