Well, it's official! The dust has settled after the last of the qualifying competitions for the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships and Chance and I have ended up leading the U.S. Region 5 Junior Team with a 66.4% average! The other team members are Jordan Farr with her horse Phoenix and Aylin Corapcioglu and Ruhman. Our Young Rider Team consists of Brandi Roenick with Nobel, Laura Decesari with Cheenook II, and Maddi Birch with Starlight. I'm so proud of everyone and I know…

Well, success is relative... Little Maggie was a very good girl. She doesn't look at much of anything, including the boats that were on the grounds. Little spook in the indoor arena. Low score of 49.6, high of 58.4, both on the same day, the last day of the show, go figure.

The race was six furlongs, held at the Old Latonia Racecourse located in Covington, Kentucky, and Exterminator won it by three lengths. Exterminator was a gelding and during his career he would race 100 times, winning 50 of them. Perhaps most impressive of all is the fact that Exterminator would…

A year or so back I was searching the Web for unusual horsie sites and I ran into horsetrainingresources.com, run by Charlie Hicks. Though most of the stuff on this site is for the Western rider (reining emphasis) and is based on older American horse training, I signed up for his e-mails since I am willing to learn from any source. I am VERY GLAD I did so.…

Last week I mentioned about the possible use of electric cattle prods on horses in USA rodeo shows. Over the next two days an extraordinary 27 people e-mailed to assure me that this practise no longer took place. I was heartened but not convinced. Then Barnmice received an e-mail from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) with an official statement entitled PRCA Livestock Welfare Statement – Electric Cattle Prod:
“PRCA rules allow for the use of a livestock prod as…

In this blog I will write briefly about the reasons why I have chosen the Natural Horse Management Model instead of small stalls and paddocks for my herd of seven horses.
I will share this video of my horses home and natural horse management.…

Hi Guys,
Here are some great tips for breaking that cycle of fear...
The simplest, quickest, way to relax is to BREATHE. Now, I know you're breathing or you wouldn't be reading this! ;-) But are you breathing in a way that promotes relaxation?
1. Let's find out. First, let's dissect what you do when you inhale. Stand up. Take in a really deep breath. Did your shoulders go up? If they did, you're just breathing in your upper chest. And there's always tension…
