Horrendous news

So, we had the vet out to take a look at my little guy and make sure he was good to wean. And, since the farrier wanted some x-rays on his mom, we got them taken, no biggie...

Definite biggie. Her coffin bone has rotated more. She's barely lame. I think we're going to have to put her down, and it's just an appalling idea. She's 6 1/2. You think you get them through the worst of it and it will be okay. And now, we're back where we were 2 years ago. And then you think what if we…

10 Diet Tips to a Healthier You: Tip 4

10 Diet Tips to a Healthier You, Tip 4:

Food + TV = NO – When you eat and watch television it is easy to over eat

because you aren’t really paying attention to your food. You can often sit down with a bowl of snacks and before you know it you have eaten the whole thing. Distractions are not good while eating, and it is best for you to be aware of what you are eating. That doesn't mean you need to intently focus on your food, but…

5 Easy Ways to Build Trust with Your Horse: Tip 3

3. Provide a Focus:

As a protective and great leader, it is also your job to provide a focus to your partnership. Everything you do should be because you provided that focus or goal. Your focus can be as simple as ‘lets graze’ or

more complex like ‘lets perform alternating flying lead changes.’

No matter what you choose for your focus, you need to know what you are doing, and your…

Two Horses

Two Horses

There is a place in the countryside with a

field that has two horses in it.

From a distance, each horse looks like any

other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice

something quite amazing....

Looking into the eyes of one horse will

disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down,

but has made a good home for him.

This alone is amazing.

If you stand… Continue

Some Thoughts on Using Bits

This month, both on the forum and on video, there have been discussions on whether use of bits constitutes abuse of the horse.

Let me be clear, if the rider does not know how to keep proper contact with the horse's mouth using a bit is abusive. From the pictures and videos I've seen in the last few years VERY FEW riders know how…

Brilliant idea

So, we've been working with little Maggie on the longe line, with sliding side reins, then she moved on to long lining, which is tough and requires quite a bit of finesse. So, last night, I gave it a try. It's way harder than it looks, lemme tell ya! But, you can see immediately what you've messed up. And, conveniently, you tend to do the same things wrong on the ground that you do in the saddle. So, I get to see what the impact of what I do is, there's no cheating…

Creation of the Mustang By Janet Hickman

When the Lord was creating mustangs, he was into his sixth day of overtime

An angel appeared and said “You fiddling around on this one”

The Lord asked “Have you read the description on this horse?”

A mustang must be able to trot for miles a day with the herd or carrying a rider that a domestic horse could never hold up too.

They have to be able to move at a nanosecond’s notice and not think twice of the danger their lives are in from predators.

They have to be able to… Continue

Don't Scare your Horse

Don't let your horse see what some of these horses look like.

They will be scared to death that you might do the same to them!

I wanted to share with you these photos of The Knot-a-Tail's Annual Boo Horse Halloween Photo Contest.

I am not sure how some of these horses stood for all that their owners did to them. I think they all must have taken a John Lyons course of two.

Vote for your favorite.
