I just want to say that I love my barn owners!
I kept my horse with them for about 3 yrs then for whatever stupid reason, I took a 2 yr break...big mistake but we all learn from our mistakes right? Well I certainly did, they welcomed me back with open arms and my horse walked off the trailer and sighed at the sight of her, then nuzzled her and rested his big mug on her shoulder. So I have been back 'home' as I like to refer to my barn, for 6 months now, and still love…

There is a nice article
here on Horsetalk which I missed when it came out!
At home on Exmoor, the hunting season is back in full swing and my own horses are loving being back out. There are some
autumnal photos here.

My 3 yr old filly has recently bitten a young girl who entered the pasture. The first time I think was an accident I think she was trying to bite the horse the girl was getting. The second time was about 2 weeks later and she bit the girl as she entered the pasture. afterwards I went out to get the girl's horse and then went out to get the filly. She allowed me to put her halter on then tried to bite me with intent, she didn't get me, I kept her under control and took her in the barn. Any…

September 14, 1968 – New Zealand-bred Cardigan Bay became the first harness racer to ever reach one million dollars in career earnings. He was twelve years old at the time, and he won his last race at Freehold Raceway in New Jersey, surpassing the million dollar earning mark. Cardigan Bay, a Standardbred, outpaced three-time horse of the year Bret Hanover in the ‘Pace of the Century’ in 1966. Cardigan Bay was retired after surpassing the million dollar mark and went on to live to the age…

The very big news today is the CN International. McLain Ward has been wanting to win this class for years and today was his day. He and his amazing mare Sapphire had two clear rounds as did Eric Lamaze on his equally amazing stallion Hickstead. Ward had to go first in the jump-off and had a clean round that was deceptively fast.

Then Lamaze put in a very quick clean round to great cheering, but looking at the clock, everyone suddenly…

HOW TO POLISH YOUR BOOTS TO PERFECTION
Ok... I admit I am a little OCD... but its part of my routine when i am getting ready for a show or class... i use the quiet time to go over my test and think about my plan... and boy do my boots shine!! Ruth
1. Start with a clean and DRY boot. (Use a salt remover type product, or water, NEVER EVER a SOAP product. SOAP or oiled products will leave a residue and no matter how hard you try, they will never shine!)
2.…

Just a quick update:
Our very own Tim Stockdale had a burning fast round in the BP Cup which is a speed class using some of the natural obstacles in the International Ring - the table and a bank. Tim and Fresh Direct Kalico Bay held on to first for quite a while and just got beat by a whisker by Rich Fellers of Wilsonville, Oregon, USA, riding McGuinness. Keep your fingers crossed that none of the last four riders can catch Rich's or Tim's times.
Rich Fellers has a…

Where to start on a thread where nobody knows you, but you do have a history. :) Maybe this will be the dumbest thing you ever read....
I guess I will just start with last night when I went out to tend to my 4 year old Mustang Oliver and a swollen sheath. His winky wanker wasn't even coming out for him to pee... I was concerned, the area was warm... I tried a few things unsuccessfully and I let him be. Thought about it some more... "how can I get close enough to him to touch it and…

Welcome to this week's science round-up. Some further stories this week about equine diseases, but also good news for owners whose horses suffer with the dermatitis condition, greasy heel.
Just the other week, this blog considered the problems that ticks can cause our equine friends, and now it’s been revealed that several horses in Ireland have been quarantined with a tick-borne… Continue

Hi Julie,
We have a 2 year old filly who weighs in at about 1000 lbs. We have done all kinds of groundwork exercises and desensitization exercises with her. She is golden...until its time for immunizations. She will not tolerate a needle. She is getting hurt in the process, as are the people around her. We even tried snubbing her (tying her to a post and squeezing a gate against her). I thought she was going to break her neck or tear the barn down. We are running out of…

Many riders lean to the outside in half pass because they use too much outside leg to push their horses sideways. Use your outside leg mainly to help bend your horse around your inside leg and secondarily to ask him to go sideways.
Keep in mind that the predominant aids in half pass need to be inside leg and outside rein…not outside leg pushing sideways and inside hand pulling the neck around in a fake a bend.
Here are 3 quick tips to help you sit in the direction…

A change in your approach to horse stall cleaning might result in improved air quality in the stable, report researchers from Georg-August University of Göttingen, in Germany.
Researchers measured the air quality in the stable with different bedding types (wheat straw, wood shavings and straw pellets) and mucking out regimens. The experiments were carried out in an enclosed, roofed stable with five box stalls housing two warmblood mares with foals and two warmblood riding…

I don't have much time to post so I'll just upload some pictures of the exciting competitions:
Will Simpson won the Akita Drilling cup on Black Cherry by taking an inside turn in the jump-off that no-one else tried.

And Jaime Azcarraga of Mexico won the Cana Cup on his gorgeous and talented stallion Presley Boy

We all have our vices. Some women collect purses. Some collect shoes. I have a closet full of western show outfits in various colors. For some reason, I have a weakness for them. Maybe because of the Swarovski crystals, the multi-hued material, or because they are related to horses. Either way, I love to spend my money on show clothes. Since there are no local shops that I can buy show clothes from (see About Me), I have bookmarked online websites that I like (and can afford) that sell western…

It's day 2 here at Spruce Meadows for the Masters Tournament, one of the biggest stops on the yearly international
show jumping tour.
