Hi Patti,
Sorry about your mare, but she soundsd lovely and with time, patience she will come around. If she was abused {I retrain abused horses},then I would suggest you start a new with her.By that I mean, try gently massaging her all over.Do lots of ground work with her, like line driving ect.It dose sound like she was abused:( Poor dear. All the best of luck with her.massaging her,you will gain her trust, let he get used to the feel of your hands all over her body.
Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do with my mare I'v had her for almost 2 yrs and dont know anything about her back ground when I get on her back she walks good but spooks at the smallest things I'v tried to get her into a trott but she starts to buck I trust this mare with my life I know she would not hurt me intentionally. It took me awhile to get her lunging good but she cowards when she sees a whip so i dont use it. The only place to ride her is in an arena cause she bolts when outside. Where i have her boarded the pros say they think she might have been abused if this is the case how can i get her to trust me. So if someone out there could please help I would be so greatful.
Hi Katherine,
Thank you too my friend for your kind comments on what I do.Sadly my friends & I we can't save all the abused horses from 2-legged savages, but we try to do what we can.Have a good week and take care:)
Hi Gary....welcome to the group!I am Connie a horsetrainer from Canada...retrain abused horses.I will check out the site...thanks for sharing.Take care :)
Hi MaryJo,
Thank you for your kind comments.Isn't that the truth...lots of 2-footed savages out there. The last horse I worked on was beaten by a guy with a 2x4.The horse stood and trembled when he came to me.I gently started massaging him, singing to him and after 2 weeks he lowered his head and stuck his head under my arm...trust again....a beautiful thing.
Take care MaryJo..nice to meet you :) Connie

Isn't it true - the only real savages are of the biped type... yet, thank goodness!!!! there are the two leg variety like Connie who can help to heal this world.
Hello All...I am fairly new here and thought \i'd join this group since I am over 40!My friends & I have a small farm and retrain, rehome abused horses.it is a wonderful thing when an abused animal trusts again.I also massage horses and often softly sing to them...they seem to enjoy both....after all music is suppose to sooth the savage beast!!??only thing is I haven't come across a 4 footed savage beast yet...2 footed maybe, especially someone who abuses animals.I hope to get to know you all Happy easter everyone!
