Hi, Lise:
Let's see, I've smashed my face to bits (lots of plastic surgery to fix that one), broken my shoulder, my wrist (twice), my leg, two fingers, my ribs, my skull, and my back. The back and one of the wrist injuries were incurred skiing, the rest were horse-related. Interestingly, I haven't injured anything coming off a horse - I was still in the saddle when my face was smashed, and still in the saddle when I broke my fingers. The shoulder happened longeing, and the skull fracture (and brain injury) happened when a horse went down with me on top, and rest were stable injuries. The most ridiculous were the ribs (3 of them broken in several places) incurred slipping on ice while carrying a Fortiflex water bucket. I landed across the bucket bottom, and broke my ribs.
None of them have stopped me riding, and thoroughly enjoying it. All were freak accidents, and after 52 years working around horses (and other large mammals) I suppose it's not too surprising. I asked the orthopedic surgeon who fixed my fingers (and the one who fixed my wrist in March) if I needed to be concerned about the number of breakages. They both confirmed that I am a small person (5'2" and 110 lbs) working with very large horses, and it will always be me who breaks, not them!

Good heavens! All these horse accidents.. May be we all need to slow down going downhill and around corners. I know, where would the fun be in that? Gail.
Yes I do Mary Joe ~ My Blog http://www.lmleblanc.blogspot.com features some ~ and I will upload some as I get more time with Barn Mice :) Ijust uploaded my first 2010 signed original to the Art Guild Group .
I wonder if I in fact *can* shatter ~ not that I want to find out ... just that my tendons are so loose I usually just stretch, bounce, bend and dislocate in the event of an obstacle. ~ kindof like Elastogirl ...
I just got my new shoulder brace today. It's called a Sully Shoulder Stabilizer. I'm multi~directionally displastic, actually, and have been healing from several recent dislocations and a torn rotator cuff. It's quite the piece of armour!
Anyone else deal with injuries/etc with riding?
