Where do you live. We have ice all winter. Gail.

I'm fortunate to have access to a covered arena. Lessons are a go up to -20 C. Anything colder is cancelled. None of the horses are clipped and mine is not blanketed - she grows a nice thick coat and has access to hay 24/7 Winter lessons tend to have a lot of walk breaks so the horses don't get too sweaty. Plenty of cool down after. If they do get sweaty they can always stay in for the night. If I didn't ride in cold weather half the year would be a bust. I trail ride all winter too. Love the quiet of the bush in the winter.

That is why I do not clip my horse, specifically because of those cold days that we have up here. We use a quarter sheet for the first 15 minutes of our ride and he has an easy lesson. If it isn't the cold it is the blistering heat. I would rather ride in the cold than in the heat. I just can't handle anything above 25 c. Probally 80 centigrade.

tomorrow should feel downright balmy - supposed to be above 0

WOW, I can't believe that you ladies ride when it is below zero!! I am in Minnesota, not as cold as some of you, but I am not riding unless it is above 15, and SUNNY!!

we don't ride if the temp in the arena is -10 or below - with clipped horses it just is too risky imo and not fun for anyone. Hoods, necks, blankets, double blankets, heated tubs and lots of hay with an early bring in are the order on these days.

The babies will come in this afternoon and the rest by 4

Yeah! I have asked Mother Nature to lay off Tuesdays and Fridays, but I guess she has a mind of her own. We usually don't do heavy work on these days.
Cheers

What a night or temperature to have a lesson. I am lucky as the instructor is riding my horse tonight. I had to go over to the barn early and take a heavier nighty for him against the wind. Gail.

Of course it is minus 25 on Tuesday. It is my lesson night. Mother Nature seems to punish me on my lesson nights!!! What else is new.

Cheers

We are in Ontario and have a windchill of minus 25 degrees. Yuck! Gail and Pekoe.
