I am not sure who I answered so I will give you somemore info here. July and Aug would be theworst months to go, too damn hot ith all of those hills etc. Fall would be ideal. "Big South Fork is the one across from Bandy Crk Stable. The stables are very clean and well run, it is just the fact that you have to lad everything into the back of the truck that you f you are thinking about staying at East fork Stable, another well run, clean establishment. Easy to get to, no switch backs or any of that fun stuff. it is right on Hwy #127

The last time I went was in early April I think, been there summer as well I think but don't remember being there in the fall but it would be pretty for sure. There are many campgrounds to choose from. It is only the one that is so inconvenient. That is the campground that is a State run campground with the privately owned stables across the road. I will have to look up some of my info on these places, there is one very popular campground that is convenient for the riders/campers, no crossing the road. I will look for the info and post it later...sorry my mind is wandering right now lol

Hey Eileen,
That's great to hear....when my friend went she stayed at the campground....I didn't realize the stables were across the road, I wouldn't like that either....My husband and I plan on getting a cabin when we go. What time of year did you go? We will be driving from Ontario, Canada so we don't want to go that far in winter with a trailer but I was thinking fall would be ok, not too humid and not too many bugs....hopefully.

South fork is a great place to ride...there are all sorts of campgrounds, for parking your LQ trailers and riding out, or cabins for those who would rather have some luxuries. Many places like that all over Southfork area, take your pick. I have riddent there and have been to a couple of places. The one thing that I do not like about the State park camground and Bandy Creek stables is...the Stables are across the road from the campground where you are not allowed to have a horse, even to saddle up. But the riding is great for all phases of ability...expert to beginners. Have a great time.

Hey Debbie...I have heard of a great spot Tennessee/Kentucky border...my husband and I are thinking of going here. We were supposed to go last fall but never made it.....It's Southfork Park...beautiful horse trails, cabins and camping available. I have lost my information on it but if you google south fork, you might find it....

Beautiful trail riding, I think there is also fishing etc....the cabins are nice and have stalls available as well....A friend of mine went last year in August and she said it was very nice but too hot at that time of year....

Yes Susan, I think they think I'm nuts! Like I am stuck in some preadolescent obsession. Oh well, I especially love riding with my equally obsessed peers and feeling like a teenager again (with more money and less nerve!).

Does anyone's family/friends think they are nuts for riding for so many years- or imply that it's time to give it up? Or are people around you supportive and impressed that you are still riding?

Margaret asked how to fit a bit without buying a gadget. I have used a piece of heavy-ish string. Placed in the horse's mouth where the bit would sit, mark both sides with a magic marker, then take it out of his mouth and measure between the marks.
Another option if you have bits from other horse try them on for size. (Sanitize before and after)
Hope that's helpful.

Dear friends, I bit off subject but I thought you'd want to know the progress being made to help save the wild horses that have been in danger of a mass slaughter.
