With so many of you being from Canada I'm going to have to take my Canada geography course again. I am in middle Michigan and the day has gone from rainy/cloudy/nasty to warm and very sunny. I am headed out from some horse time at the barn.
I do clean my horses sheath myself so I'm gonna have to memorize this little song.. And share it with others. Very clever!
As Dorothy said, I'll never look at sheath cleaning the same again.

That is very funny, I will have to share this with my friends at the barn.
It has just started to snow again in Calgary, Alberta. Josh I'm tired of snow and want some sunshine so I can start to ride outdoors. The inside of the arena is looking pretty dull by now.

I'll never look at sheath cleaning the same way again ... ;-)

That's hilarious, and I have to share it!

LOL What a great idea! I do equine and canine portraiture, add in the sheath cleaning and it's a winning combination! Here's the sheath cleaning song I promised:

Sheath Cleaning Song

To the tune of "If you're happy and you know it"...

If it's hanging and you see it lube your hands
If it's hanging and you see it lube your hands
If it's hanging and you see it
Grab it quick it's time to clean it
If it's hanging and you see it lube your hands.

If it's peely and it's crusty pick it off
If it's peely and it's crusty pick it off
If it's peely and it's crusty
and the smell is kind of musty
If it's peely and it's crusy pick it off

If his weenie has a beanie dig it out
If his weeny has a beanie dig it out
If his weiner has a beaner
Pull it out and he'll be cleaner
If his weenie has a beenie dig it out

Now he's happy and you know it wash your hands
Now he's happy and you know it wash your hands
It's a job that's kind of kinky
And now your hands are really stinky
But he's happy and you know it wash your hands.

Hi, everyone:

I'm with Bastian - do your own sheath cleaning - Dove soap works wonders, and you save on vet costs. We have to save every penny to spend on our horses, so anything we can do ourselves we do, including sheath cleaning!

Horses are great incentives with regard to finding jobs - that's always worked for me. Now I make my living with the horses, but it takes a long time in the BC interior to build up sufficient clientele. I travel a lot to teach clinics, but at least they're intensive and don't cut into training time too much. It's also fun to reconnect with clients and friends on a regular basis.

I just pulled the trailer out of storage and checked it all out. It's bedded, the hay's in the truck, and tomorrow we have to pack everything, then off to the first big show of the season. Last weekend was my Dad's first show of the season - he's 68, took three horses, rode 8 tests, and ended up the Advanced Reserve Champion (no, not advanced age!) and the Freestyle Reserve Champion, so age doesn't matter! On Monday one of his horses ships out to Chicago for the FEI competition there in the middle of May, he flies out the following Sunday and I follow him on the Tuesday. He goes to the gym 4 times per week, is riding 3 horses, and does yoga and balance-ball work at home. It helps that he's a retired teacher (so's my Mum) so they have good pensions and lots of time, but they work at it.

Actually, in BC we have an RCMP officer who earns extra money moonlighting as a sheath cleaner - maybe Jenny should consider that in addition to tutoring - then you could come home and ride. It's a pretty good business, and she makes her own hours...just a thought! Maybe you can Robin could get something started in Ontario...

Thank you, Bastian, and Debbie, there's a great song to sing while you're doing that sheath cleaning, I'll see if I can find it!
