You are so right, Cindy! Our minds are so powerful when we put them to good use.
LOLOL!! Elin when I was competing in reining I would visualize in the driver's seat as well, especially corners were great because I could strengthen my butt cheeks independantly on each corner. lololol A sliding stop would be putting on the brakes in the car to come to a full stop....but I would sit in the drivers seat in the sliding stop position, it was quite interesting and quite helpful. Visualization is extremely important even down to the smallest detail. Trail patterns I dance on the ground before I try them on my horse.
Visualizing is a wonderful way to train the brain to master the body! When I was driving 100 miles a day to take my daughter to school, I "practiced" my dressage tests in the drivers seat. If you know the number of strides in each movement you can even get the timing down perfectly!
Hi Gayle
I agree on the two lessons. I have been taking lessons twice a week for over 5 years. If I don't get it on one, I get it on the other.
Oh THANK YOU to everyone that has posted regarding my riding lesson experience. All the information has been extremely valuable and up lifting. Elin and Cathie....I will follow up with the riding academy and see if twice weekly lessons can be made available. I can certainly see the benefit in the short term. Thank you so much for your sage advice! In the meantime, I do a lot of visualizing at night...lol...also throwing my leg over the couch alot!!!
Hi Gayle, Cathie is absolutely right about the two lessons each week especially if you do not have the opportunity to ride in between your weekly lessons. The learning process proceeds much faster and the whole picture is more satisfying for the student.
Gayle, is it possible for you to take 2 lessons a week at least for a little while? When I was learning, I found this really helped. You do eventually get to a level where you can ride weekly and enjoy it greatly but that twice a week for a while really gets your muscle memory going.
It is fun to practise.
Keep going - sounds to me like your doing really well! Our horses are so fkorgiving and I am sure yours is just happy that you are having a happy time.- they just love that.
Not to worry Gayle you will be riding like a pro in a few months keep up the hard work it all really does get better :-)))
