Hey bloggers,
Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far and staying dry during all the rain we've been having. This week's blog for Baker's is going to be dedicated to rider tidiness. As a rider, your coach and judges like when you are tidy and neat in both your horse's appearance as well as your own. It looks more professional to be well put together for both horse and rider, and in doing so makes your overall picture look very appealing. At Baker's, we have many products to…

Crazy Day in the Park
My sister and I planned to take Cole and Ranger up to the show ring area for a ride, but it looked like rain. She checked her smart phone, and sure enough, rain was on the way. It was hard to tell how much time we had—maybe and hour or maybe two?
We decided to take the chance and ride, anyway. We would keep an eye on the sky and turn for home if it looked bad. The ride we were planning takes about an hour and a half if we do a lot of trotting.
Ellen…

Love this new post by Cathy Rivers! Check it out! Just yesterday I read three articles on how parents of Olympian athletes always have extreme money issues. It takes money to be a champion.....if you're an equestrian this is
important info....
Money is such a big source of drama for people, businesses and organizations these days. Webster’s defines this use of the…

I think this is a fascinating view of Monty Robert's methods of "join-up" and of the use of the round pen. Something worth considering. I've also provided a link to his response.
Researchers urge rethink of 'Monty Roberts' horse training method July 13, 2012 Enlarge Researchers used a remote control car to mimic the actions of a trainer using the Join-Up method, undermining the idea of a human-horse connection. (Phys.org) -- Aspects of a horse training…

Cowboy boots aren’t your ordinary sneaker or shoe. They are unique just like the people who wear them. They have their own style and functionality. Cowboy boots do a job and that is to protect your feet while doing chores in the pasture, working in…

Okay, not mud, actually, just wet sand. Muffin was a bit of a saucy thing in our lesson on Wednesday (by that I mean she had moments where you feel like you are sitting on a barrel of TNT, match at the ready), so my trainer won't make a decision on our show hopes until next lesson. In her defence, Maggie was in season, and this late in the year, she is INSISTENT in her cycle. So, it looked like the next couple days were going to be wet, so my instructions were to ride her outside, in the…

I must confess that I approached my ride on Bobby today with sort of a hopeless feeling. So I spent the grooming time giving his head a good scratching, hoping that if I made him feel good he might be more cooperative. Bobby is always such a good boy during grooming and tacking up, he puts up with the indignity of the spray bottle, and he is very good during tacking up. Shannon has him trained so she can tighten the girth without having to hold the reins at all, and Bobby…

Hey guys,
Hope everyone is enjoying the start to the long weekend, and have enjoyed watching the spectacular performances by the Canadians today at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Canada won their first gold medal of this Olympic Games, as well as a silver and a bronze medal; go Canada go! For all the riders competing at Grandview Summer Horse Trials tomorrow, best of luck! Make sure you bring your rain boots and rain gear because the weather is unfortunately not looking too…

I've been going up after work every night to cold hose Cooper. Last night I didn't say anything to him and just walked past his stall, I thought I was being quiet but his head popped up from eating and he came over to the door and squeezed his face against the screen. Guess he could hear my bones creaking LOL
The hematoma is not getting any bigger now, looks like it has gone down a bit. I put poultice on it Tuesday and Wednesday after drying him and then…

Unconditional Love
E. A. Buck 2012
Unconditional: not subject to conditions; complete.
Sympathetic: having the capacity of being simultaneously affected with the same feeling as another.
Love: an intense feeling of deep affection or fondness for.
In Sanskrit the word for a deeper compassion is karuna. Karuna is actually our ability to relate to another in so intense a measure that the plight of the other affects us as much as…

I can’t remember who came first in my life- dogs or horses. I do know a few of each are required for my mental health. There is a slow and gradual changing of the guard, as years go on.
Three dogs and 13 years ago, my cattle dog, Hero and I were pretty depressed after losing our old dog, Spam. The moping around was wearing on us, so we signed up for Dog Agility class and called it date night.
I’d been to obedience classes with other dogs- but this was different. It was happy…

Oakley had a light July.
We aren't going anywhere for August, and probably not in Septermber, either.
We are going to concentrate on basic dressage work and jumping skills over low jumps.
