Wonderfully or, maybe, horrifyingly funny as it is too true!

I think this will lead you to the right place.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts. My horses are getting older as I am and I see this as just the beginning of things to come. It's like I am being prepared for the process ahead.

There is a discussion on Barnmice called,"The Process of Passing". You might find it soothing. Even when you know you are doing the right thing, you will miss her.

Cindy, sorry to hear about your mare. I lost my gelding three years ago now, and I still miss him.
Shirley, I would like that link to the discussion group as well if you can get it.

So sorry, Cindy, to hear about the loss of your mare. My favorite horse died in 2003 and it has been very hard to be as committed to another as I was to her. Hope you find peace in the beautiful memories of your time together.

It is so sad to lose a horse. It's not like losing a dog or cat. We form partnerships with horses and we learn to trust each other so we can go out into the fields and woods together and have fun. Although horses are not usually described as being affectionate, we often have a feeling they are looking out for us, balancing us mentally and physically, watching out for danger, tuning into our moods. We admire their beautiful bodies and their straight forward minds, and most of us just plain fall in love with them. As sad as this passing is, Cindy, think of all the wonderful memories you will be able to revisit forever. Please accept my condolences.
