I'm 51, in my first year of teaching school, and so wish I could retire, too! I've been a self-employed artist all my life, and although I did manage to raise two children on my own and have a horse, I never managed to put anything aside or have any time off or anything. (Yeah, yeah; I know most people would say you should have the retirement fund before the horse but I just couldn't live without one.) So here I am trying to start a new career at 51 in the worst economic times in recent history. At least I still have my horse!

Well girls it was just dumb luck for me to be able to retire at that age. I was born at the right time, started working in my teens, and stuck with the same company till the bitter end. There was a lot of big changes going on backk then, computers were just becoming a big thing in the office and the head count had to come down. I had the right numbers, (age and service) I don't know what is going to happen to a lot of the workers out there that are not old enough to retire, with kids to put through school etc..it is going to be tough for a lot of parents and kids

Hi group, I am well over 40, with 25 years practice. lol but I still ride and love to cover Norrh America atop my favourite trail horses. I live in the Dresden area of SWO, and winter in Florida for 4 months. I retired when I was 49 and never regretted that for a day, give me more time in the saddle. Thanks Elaine for inviting me over.

Congradulations Catherin!!! A little at a time and you will be amazed that one day it will be up to an hour. Teaching today riding tonight. Will have just 45 minutes but that is enough to make me smile! Hope you all have a good day!

What a great group, I want to comment that we are over 60, my husband and I are taking dressage from our instructor, also over 60 and wouldn't dream of even thinking about the "age factor". I may suffer from a recently diagnosed OCEA disease, never heard of it until I found y'all.

I got my first horse as a high school kid, then again when I had children aged 3 and 5 I bought them a pony and myself , Sunup Tirpitz (a yearling), a wonderful Morgan stallion, he owned me until he was 27, fell and broke his leg. Our kids pony was about 40 and my husband said we got every last day out of him.

Now I have another Morgan, -its an addiction I don't mind- two Qtr horses and just last year our two Andalusian mares.
I've got friends who just don't understand, I don't need to leave home for vacations, unless I can go to a horse show. I need to be home every night for chores and
I was reading the Christian group's notes, I do feel I have been given the best gifts in life, feeding, shoveling, brushing, and loving my horses. I like the solitary ride and time to say prayers of "thanks" for these wonderful friends. My wish is to ride til I'm 90. Hey my Mom is in great condition at 83, why not???
