Hey I need some information I am looking for winter riding boots, does anyone know the brand Windsor or Suffolk which is better. I am looking for a riding boot that has sheepskin in side to keep me warm.

I notice as I get older that I am more patient with young horses, not that I was really a hurrier, but now I can stop, back up or repeat a process, or just say the heck with it and go for a stroll with the horse without feeling as though I am a failure. I think this makes me am a better trainer: the combination of having tried some things that work- and some that don't- with patience. And then again maybe it indicates middle-aged delusion. But it is nice to be deluded, isn't it.

Every year I eagerly await our new foal crop to see what my stallions are producing and the differences in each foal. Just like people they are individuals and need to be treated in the way they respond the best. Since I'm breeding my Andy stallion to Paint mares we are getting some spotted foals which is great fun especially as they reveal themselves during delivery!

Ann you are brave...I think I would have lost my 'whole lunch', not just the sandwich. Hope you weren't riding a "greeny", my stomach is doing flips just thinking of it. :-)
Ellin I think you are right about still training the babies and the satisfaction of knowing they will be good horse citizens when finished, I like that concept. No matter how long it takes.

A snowy gallop sounds wonderful to me, too. I've become more consersative in my advancing years, but, like you, find myself still starting and training babies. It must be the satisfaction that comes from knowing they are good horse citizens when finished.

I still find myself on green horses but more and more wish for one that is middle-aged and well trained. (So far I seem to sell them and find another youngster.) I too have ridden greenies for over 50 years. I am usually more conservative now about the how and where, but then get a case of 'just like a kid' again and do something crazy. With friends I rode both of my Arabs, separately of course!, right along the cliff-edge hiking trail at the lip of the Enderby cliffs. It is a drop of more than 500 feet straight down, I think, in some places, and you could let go of your sandwich just past your stirrup watch it spiral to the bottom.

And then there is the urge to gallop across that open field in the first snow...

What excellent ideas ladies!!! Should go into business putting together an equestrian trail survival kit. I'm sure there are some out there but not with these most wonderful items. Horse Council of B.C. has I.D. bands in brilliant flouresent colours in there store. Put whatever you want on them. I really like Ellin's GPS idea, I run a riding stable and people go out on the trails around us, randomly. There are 250 acres to ride on plus more trails on the government land next to us, it would be nice to be able to track where they are or for them to press a button and the message would relay back to registered cell numbers ie. manager, assistant manager, barn manager, instructors and coaches, etc.

Hi Sherry- what a great idea - where do you get the band? Also a good suggestion by Rose - I have a whistle - where is it? In my locker of course!! Not much good there.
