Hi, I just joined last week. I'm originally from Vancouver, and we moved to Toronto 29 (YIKES!) years ago—I STILL cannot get used to these winters. It's just not civilized!
We are in the country with a small barn, but I have my horse boarded for winter. VERY $$, but I work off half of it by helping with mucking at a friend's barn with arena.
Today was a frustrating winter day...After a big snowfall last night, it took 2 hours to shovel the car out of the driveway. Only to rush to the barn to muck stalls. Waaay too much shoveling for one day! Oh well, they tell me it's good for the core...??

Hi Laurie: I am one of the elder riders. I am 65 and did start one of the groups last year. That group does not seem to be as active as the over 40's one. But, ask away. I will see if I can help you with any questions you might have. Gail Morse.

A few months ago, there were some folks discussing elder equestrian riders -- those in the 60++ age group. Can anyone contact me about this? I'm doing some writing ...

Hey, Rosemarie ... welcome back to riding! Unfortunately, I haven't been on a horse since July, unless you could the 15-20 minutes on my cousin's horse a couple of weeks ago! Good to hear your girl's doing well.

Welcome Vanessa, I also have recently started to ride again after twenty some odd years. You are so right, the industry has changed. Did you also recently buy a horse?
There is still a fair amount of working off your board going on, it all depends on the barns policies. I am a Big Sister and we were working off some of my Little Sisters lesson.s.
I bought a Percheron cross last year, no supplements for my girl on a regular basis. She some times comes down with a dry cough, in this case the girls will give her a natural supplement to help things clear.
Enjoy!

FINALLY got in a ride today. Just an easy walk down the road, since I don't really know how much ice is under the snow pack. Still, it was great to get back in the saddle. I haven't ridden since Dec. 1st! Ground work only goes so far towards my mental stability!!!

I'm ready for spring too! Not so much the warmer temps., although that will be welcomed; more so safe footing! Even so, I'm on week 2 of working with the horses. Haven't done any riding yet, just trimming feet and light ground work. I've found it's a good time to work on ground tying...haha!

I don't like winter either but do have an arena. Just can't haul myself out of the house but getting better as I had to as horse was getting fat. Gail.

I really don't like winter. I cannot ride and come spring It is like starting all over again with my horse. Obviously I don't board at a stable with an arena
but even then it is sooooo cold.
I hope I don't sound like a wooossie but winter sucks, bring on spring.
YES!

I took Tai Chi lessons for a while and it made a huge difference, time to go back and do that again..... before my fibromyalgia causes me to stiffen up like a pretzel... lol
